The Vols are going to take center stage on college football’s opening weekend in 2025.
It was just announced that Tennessee will play Syracuse in the 2025 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic.
The game will be played on August 30, 2025 in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which serves as home to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.
“Opening a season in Atlanta in a venue of this caliber against an excellent opponent will generate tremendous excitement within our program and among our players. We look forward to a massive turnout from Vol Nation in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2025.”
This game will be the first of two ACC vs. SEC matchups during the 2025 Kickoff Series. There will be a game between Virginia Tech and South Carolina later that weekend.
Per the Vols release, this will mark the sixth double-header in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game’s history and the fourth time it has featured two ACC vs. SEC contests in the same weekend.
The Vols will be in Year 5 of Heupel’s tenure on Rocky Top at that point.
Syracuse, which has had some relative success in recent years under Coach Dino Babers, was an interesting choice as the ACC opponent.
According to Winsipedia, Tennessee enjoys a 3-0 advantage over the Orange in the all-time series.
The Vols last met Syracuse in 2001, defeating the Orange 33-9 at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.
The first meeting between the teams was a Vols victory in the 1966 Gator Bowl.
